Completed in 1865, this building in the Neo-Renaissance style housed the Ducal State Bank of Saxony-Altenburg, from 1923 on the Thuringian State Bank, and from 1945 to 1990 a branch of the State Bank of the German Democratic Republic. After the German reunification, Deutsche Bank and Raiffeisenbank followed. Since 2005, the building has been vacant. For a while, some departments of the Bethanien Hospital were located on one of the floors.
The course of history and the various occupants have left behind a mosaic of architectural styles and artifacts behind the classic façade.
